Show a PR Colleague Some Love & Help Fund Professional Development Scholarships

February is the month we celebrate love, and it isn’t limited to romantic relationships. It’s a time for you to show appreciation for people who are important to you.

The Florida Public Relations Education Foundation is giving you an opportunity to “Show a PR Colleague Some Love” this month. For every $10 donation you make to the Foundation, we will send a Valentine to the recipient of your choice. It’s a great way to let your colleagues, mentors, educators and others know how much they mean to you.

My first Valentine is going to Dr. Brenda Wrigley, APR. She was my first professor when I decided to get my master’s degree in communications management at Syracuse University. When I arrived there, I had not taken a class since graduating from the University of Florida 17 years earlier. Part of me wondered if I was up to the challenge. But not Dr. Wrigley. She worked with each of us, all mid-career professionals, to ensure we had the training we needed to be successful. Dr. Wrigley was an incredible teacher and my capstone advisor. I’m grateful for the many hours she spent reviewing drafts, sharing feedback and providing the encouragement we all needed to excel in the program. Dr. Wrigley now teaches at Curry College in Massachusetts, but we keep in touch. She is there whenever I need her. Occasionally, I still seek her advice when I’m working with clients.

Here’s how this works:

  1. I make my donation online (click red button below).
  2. The Foundation emails Dr. Wrigley an e-Valentine and mails her a printed one.
  3. I receive a special graphic that says, “I Showed a PR Colleague Some Love.” I can then post that graphic on social media encouraging my colleagues to show some love too.

When I post the received “I Showed a PR Colleague Some Love.” graphic, I’ll be including a photo of Dr. Wrigley and will share with my friends why I’m honoring her. Recipient photos are optional, but do help spread the word that you showed some love to a PR colleague and encourage your friends to do the same!

This is easy to do and will make someone’s day very special. Your donation will help the FPRE Foundation fund professional development scholarships for PR students and practitioners. And here’s something to sweeten the deal: Thanks to the generosity of longtime FPRA members Joe Curley, APR, CPRC, and Roger Pynn, APR, CPRC, your first $10 donation will become $20!

“Show a PR Colleague Some Love” this month and strengthen the public relations profession by helping provide professional development scholarships. The Foundation is grateful for your support.
