In 2015 Conference - Updates, 2019 President's Message

For the Florida Public Relations Association, April means three things:

  1. Local Image Awards recognition
  2. Accreditation awareness
  3. And that it is four months away from the 81st Annual Conference.

And they are all connected.

During local Image Award celebrations, chapters will be recognizing their members for programs they conducted in 2018. The winning entries could be a public relations campaign, an outreach program, special event or more. Some chapters are having awards lunches while others are celebrating with a special event in the evening.

The local Image Awards are a precursor to the Golden Image Awards, which will be showcased at Annual Conference.

Most judges for the local Image Awards are credentialed. Some have their APR (Accredited in Public Relations) and their CPRC (Certified Public Relations Counselor). It is required that all Image judges have either won an Image and/or Golden Image Award.

Earning your APR is a dedicated effort from study sessions to presenting to a panel and taking (and passing) a rigid test. Then, when you have reached at least 10 years in the public relations field, you can sit for your CPRC that shows your mettle as a senior PR counselor.

Ginger Broslat, APR, CPRC, has been our VP of Accreditation for the last two years and has been devoted to guiding our members to earn their Accreditation. The ones who earned their Accreditation this year will be recognized at Annual Conference.

Have I mentioned Annual Conference? Have I mentioned that it’s four months away? A strong lineup of speakers has been finalized, including from places like Patrón Tequila and Grey Goose Vodka and Wendy’s.

Starting with this newsletter, you’ll be hearing a lot about Annual Conference, set for Aug. 4-7 at the Tampa Marriott Waterside, in downtown Tampa, which has recently been rebranded Tampa Marriott Water Street.

The design of the theme, We Are FPRA, came from the inspiration of Molly Kellogg-Schmauch, the current past president of the Capital Chapter. Last year, as president, it was Molly’s creative talents that came up with the chapter’s theme, We Are PR, We Are FPRA.

So I hope you’ll come to Annual Conference and be inspired by the speakers, inspired by our newly credentialed members and inspired by the great PR programs recognized at Golden Image Awards. Oh, and check out the news coming soon on the sunset dinner cruise … on a yacht!

It’s only a few months away.

Stay Smart. Stay Engaged. Have Fun.
