Individuals with sensory disabilities navigate social media and the digital world differently. With one in four adults in the United States having some form of a disability, an organization must be able to effectively reach a diverse population through social media.
The Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) Lake County Chapter welcomes expert speaker on social media accessibility Alexa Heinrich, Social Media Manager for St. Petersburg College (SPC). During her virtual program at noon on Nov. 18 via Zoom, participants will learn how to make content more accessible through the implementation of alt text, video captioning, proper emoji use, strategic copywriting, and more. The program is free for FPRA members and $10 for prospective members. Tickets can be obtained at the following link: http://bit.ly/FPRALakeSocialMedia.
Prior to working for SPC, Heinrich was a content specialist in Illinois for City Colleges of Chicago. She is an advocate for creating accessible and inclusive content for social media and has presented educational webinars on the subject to Harvard University and the National Institute for Social Media. She is passionate about creating accessible and inclusive content for digital communications as well as educating others on the realities of working in social media.
“Digital accessibility is a small, but important, part of a larger objective: making the online world and digital communications truly inclusive and ensuring that everyone is always included in the conversation and feels properly represented,” said Heinrich.
