In 2017 Annual Conference

Blogger: Rachel Denton, Central West Coast Chapter

As a relatively new member, this was my first time attending the Florida Public Relations Association’s Annual Conference and along with my one-day conference scholarship, I was tasked with writing a blog about the Presidents’ Luncheon.

Presidents' Luncheon 2017What could be better? Awards, food, a famous dessert, fun and laughter…I was definitely in! Little did I know what a powerful and special luncheon it would be.

As leaders were speaking and honors were being given, I took a moment to look around the room and take it all in. The smiles, the pride you could feel from the chapter members, and the cheers of accomplishment made me feel excited to be a part of FPRA. I immediately felt like FPRA was a family, and everyone was so lively, friendly and ready to celebrate their accomplishments which made it all a breath of fresh air.

One of the other best parts of the luncheon (there were many!) was that our Central West Coast Chapter won Chapter of the Year! Central West Coast Chapter of the Year 2017

I felt so much pride and joy for our chapter as we walked on stage to receive the award. Mischa Kirby, APR, our president, has been instrumental in making our chapter thrive and I am grateful to have her as a friend and colleague in the cultural world of Sarasota.

To also see my friend, Terri Behling, APR, CPRC, lead the luncheon on stage as president, then immediate past-president of FPRA was such a special treat. Terri Behling at presidents' luncheonI am thrilled to become the Director of Administration on the Central West Coast Chapter’s board for the 2017-18 term and to work with such inspirational leaders. To also see my friend, Terri Behling, APR, CPRC, lead the luncheon on stage as president, then immediate past-president of FPRA was such a special treat.

I would be remiss if I didn’t include another best part of the luncheon – the Dillin Dessert! Dillin Dessert

I had heard and read about the infamous dessert and wow, it did not disappoint! With chocolate, peanut butter crunch, lemon cello, and strawberries topped with an edible, perfectly crafted FPRA logo, I was beyond impressed. This Dillin Dessert is definitely something to be celebrated!

After being installed as our new association president, Ryan Gerds, APR, CPRC, announced our 2017-18 theme, Find Your BalanceRyan Gerds, APR, CPRC

The theme will focus on:

  • PR balance
  • Productivity and time management
  • Work-life balance

I look forward to getting to know Ryan and I am grateful for this theme as I believe that it will be essential for not only myself but all of the members of our organization. I cannot wait to delve more into the facets of this topic.

Thank you to the team who presented the luncheon and everyone who welcomed me with open arms. I was honored to be a part of it all and am proud to say I’m a member of FPRA!
