Founded in 1938, FPRA is the nation's oldest Association of public relations professionals. Today, more than 1,300 FPRA members unite in the common cause of enhancing and promoting the public relations profession.
FPRA provides a variety of services, benefits and opportunities. It is dedicated to programs and activities that enhance the success of the public relations professional. The association functions on two levels:
- Services and programs dedicated toward improving the professional competence of the individual public relations professional
- Programs benefiting the entire profession
Membership in FPRA is a sound professional investment. The association offers many programs and services to its members, including:
Networking
Access to over 1,300 public relations practitioners who are available through e-mail or telephone.
Professional Development
Numerous opportunities for professional development through the 15 chapters located statewide, and through the state association.
Professional Recognition
Annual Golden Image Awards, a statewide competition, allows members to measure their work against other public relations practitioners around the state and receive recognition for that work. Local Image Award competitions provide the same opportunities and recognition at the chapter level.
Professional Accreditation and Certification
Study sessions are available statewide for FPRA members to help them achieve the internationally recognized rank of Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), and a second tier credential, Certified Public Relations Counselor (CPRC), for more seasoned members. The CPRC credential is only offered through FPRA.
Annual Conference
State association hosts the annual conference with assistance from all 15 chapters. The conference features nationally known speakers and offers members the opportunity to stay current on public relations techniques and practices and enjoy networking with other public relations professionals. Monthly Chapter Meetings
Local chapters meet monthly to hear timely speakers, exchange career experiences, network with other public relations practitioners, and conduct general business.
Statewide Job Bank
Available positions in public relations are posted on the statewide job bank accessible to FPRA members.
Counselors’ Network
Membership in the network is open to any FPRA member of the association who Is accredited by FPRA or a North American Public Relations Council (NAPRC) affiliated organization; Is actively engaged a substantial amount of their time in providing public relations counseling services to top-level management; Has ten years of experience in public relations; and Has spent a minimum of three years as a full-time counselor, either in private practice or within his or her organization. Benefits include special programming such as the mid-year meeting and annual conference breakout sessions. Leadership Opportunities
FPRA offers leadership opportunities to its members to help them hone and enhance their leadership skills. Members have the opportunity to gain experience by serving in a leadership position and working with a group of public relations professionals to lead and direct one of FPRA’s 15 chapters, and eventually serve on board of directors at the state association level.
Personally, leadership in FPRA helps build confidence, boosts your professional reputation and is a great experience to include on your resume. Organizational and motivational skills gained through chapter/state board or committee leadership positions can also improve and enhance work performance in your paying job.
