Karen Plunkett, APRP, became president and the Association’s financial performance continued to be a focus. Annual Conference was held at The Peabody in Orlando where Jean Ludlow, APRP, CPRC, received the Dillin Award and J. Rayburn, APRP, CPRC received Member of the Year.
Local chapter competitions became known as “Image Awards” and a four-color “PR Florida” magazine was inaugurated with Lynn Schneider, APRP, as its first editor. | | |

- Association organized a statewide environmental education effort.
- “PR Florida's” first issue was published.

- An online computer system was approved for implementation.
- 20th anniversary of the APRP and CPRC programs – 22% (175) of FPRA’s members were accredited or certified.
- PRSA explored a merger with FPRA – FPRA rejected the offer.
- Counselors’ Network met at The Breakers of Palm Beach.
- Annual Meeting was held at the Ritz-Carlton, Naples and included the Flower Power Beach Bash fund-raiser.
- No recipient for the Dillin Award and Karen Plunkett, APRP, received Member of the Year.
- Laura Nurse, APRP, was the first recipient of the Fleischman Award, named after Doris Fleischman, wife of Edward L. Bernays, which honored the “behind the scenes” involvement and dedication of an FPRA member.

State Conference was held at the Renaissance Vinoy in St. Petersburg and Doris Wilkes received the Dillin Award, Laura Nurse, APRP, received Member of the Year and Christian Bailey, APRP, received the Fleischman Award. Steve Summers, APRP, CPRC, became the Association’s Executive Director and the State Office was moved from Winter Haven to Lakeland. | | |

Carol Trivett, APRP, CPRC, served as the Association’s president.
- APR (Accreditation in Public Relations) replaced APRP as Universal Accreditation became a reality and all members with the APRP designation were grandfathered into the new accreditation program.
- FPRA founder and two-time state president Lt. Col. John W. Dillin died on August 27.
- FPRA celebrated its Diamond Anniversary at the Ritz-Carlton in Naples. Scott Harrington, APR, CPRC, received the Dillin Award, Kathleen Giery, APR, CPRC, and Jackie Kersh, APR, received Members of the Year and Adrienne Moore, APR, CPRC, received the Fleischman Award.

- Cheray Keyes-Shima, APR, and Christopher Carroll, APR, became the Association's first Co-Executive Directors and moved the State Office to Sarasota.
- FPRA’s bi-monthly White Paper was introduced.
- The final issue of “PR Florida” was published with tribute to Lt. Col. John W. Dillin.
- FPRA decided to focus resources on new technology.
- Bob Gernert, Jr., APR, CPRC, received the Dillin Award, Tom Preston, APR, Fellow PRSA, received Member of the Year and Melea Gernert received the Fleischman Award.
